Louise Degn passed away on May 8, 2015.  She asked that her website be maintained so that anyone wishing to access her recorded music or download the printed music could do so.  She was pleased with the last video, Electric Rain.  Once it was completed, she was ready to go.

You will find her obituary here.

My music has been described as in the Romantic style with impressionistic effects, pastel harmonies with 7ths & 9ths … which is another way of saying my music reflects my feelings, including dissonances, whether I’m aware of it or not.

I began piano lessons at age 8 with Frederick Dixon, a former concert pianist who gave up his career when a runaway tree limb blinded him in one eye. He traveled to the non-descript former railroad town of Ogden, Utah, from his home in Salt Lake City on weekends to teach a handful of lucky students. Mr. Dixon traced his piano ancestry back to Liszt, thus my training and affection for Romantic Era music.

I began composing lessons in 1988 with W. A. Mathieu who traces his composition ancestry back to Nadia Boulanger, the noted teacher of composers like Philip Glass. Allaudin tried to drag me into modern times but observed, “Your music has been a way of discovering yourself. That’s why you’re not curious about others’ music.”

Thus raises the question, does a listener really need to know about the composer/performer to connect with the music?

To quote Allaudin again, “Wanting to get to know a musician because you like her music is like wanting to know a duck because you like the paté.  An audience listens to music, not to know the composer, but to know themselves.”

Therefore, if your inner landscape contours alongside mine, let this music touch your feelings, as well.
