Thinking of You – piano solo – Video
Sitting in my bathtub one night, watching a TV movie, the ending shot seemed to never end. (My TV training told me the show must have run short and they were filling time.) As the main character looked soulfully as his true love departed, something inside urged me to get to the piano quickly. I did and my hands played a new musical theme as if the notes had been stored there all along, waiting to come out. Over the next few months I worked out the variations.

Thinking of You – vocal duet – video
Music: Louise Degn
Words: Emma Lou Thayne
Singers: Vern Sutton, Maria Jette
Accompanist: Louise Degn
Recorded August 20, 2014, Prairie Home Companion Cruise, Baltic Sea, to introduce the Walk for the Cancer Cure.
Vern and Louise have a personal connection about cancer. His wife, Phyllis, died of cancer several years ago but not before she lobbied the federal government to get a new oral chemotherapy drug, Xeloda, approved for women with stage four breast cancer. Louise was on Xeloda for two years and it had no debilitating side effects. Vern told this story to all the cruise walkers who were there to support cancer patients and research, making for an emotional, tender situation.
Words can be found under Sheets tab of web site. Vern improvised the duet music line, based on the piano accompaniment.
I played this piece for a visitor from Poland before it had a title. In broken English she described her feelings. It’s like so lovers quarrelling, she said. They don’t want to hurt each other, so they say, “Don’t Cry.”

Electric Rain (Music Video)
In the high deserts of the West, summer rainstorms blow up quickly. Lightening crackles and rain pounds down. Then, as quickly as the storms blow up, they stop. The Electric Rain has refreshed us again.
